Earlier, the visitors were bundled out for 248/10 as India took a lead of 270 runs. The visitors had started the day from the overnight total of 140/4 and added another 108 before losing all their wickets in the first innings. Kuldeep Yadav was the wreaker-in-chief, as he registered his fifth five-wicket haul in 15 Tests. Ravindra Jadeja returned with three scalps, while pace duo Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj picked a wicket each.
The contest began with India winning the toss and opting to bat, following which the hosts piled a massive 518/5 before declaring the innings on Day 2. Yashasvi Jaiswal led the charge and hammered 175(258), featuring 22 boundaries. Shubman Gill, who was involved in the mix-up that led to Jaiswal's dismissal, returned unbeaten on 129(196). Meanwhile, Sai Sudharsan, whose spot at No. 3 has been heavily scrutinised, managed 87(165).
Sudharsan didn't take the field on Day 3 and BCCI confirmed it as a precautionary measure after sustaining "an impact injury on Day 2 while attempting a catch."
"The injury is not serious, and he is doing fine. He continues to be monitored by the BCCI Medical Team," it added.
