Abhishek Sharma gave India some cushion in otherwise a flop show by the batters. He scored a blazing half-century despite Josh Hazlewood decimating the top order in the powerplay. Abhishek's effort combined with a sedate 35(33) by Harshit Rana helped India pile a respectable 125/10 in 18.4 overs after the visitors were reduced to 49/5 in the eighth over. The southpaw blasted 68 off 37 balls, featuring eight 4s and two 6s, before getting out against Nathan Ellis.
The proceedings began with Australia winning the toss and opting to field, following which it was Hazlewood all over. He first packed Shubman Gill for 5(10), following which Sanju Samson, who was promoted to No. 3, was trapped LBW for 2 by Ellis. Hazlewood continued his menace as Suryakumar Yadav followed suit and was caught-behind for 1, which was a delivery after the wicketkeeper had failed to hold onto a catch. Tilak Varma also fell victim to Hazlewood and returned to the dugout without troubling the scorers.
Axar Patel then fell victim to a run-out, which cut short his stay in the middle for 7(12). Meanwhile, in another interesting call, Harshit Rana was sent ahead of Shivam Dube.
Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head gave Australia a strong start as the pair added 51 for the opening wicket. Varun Chakaravarthy broke the stand and he added one more wicket to his tally later in the match. Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav also registered two scalps each.
