The contest witnessed an hour delay due to weather conditions as South Africa won the toss and invited India to bat. Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal gave hosts a decent start, adding 55 runs in the first powerplay. Mandhana, however, departed in the next over bowled by Nonkululeko Mlaba for 23(32). Rana and Ghosh combined to deal in boundaries and added 88 runs off just 53 balls. Rana scored 33(24), which included six boundaries.
Tryon was the pick among the South Africa bowlers, registering three scalps in 10 overs and conceding just 32 runs. Nadine de Klerk, who dismissed Ghosh, returned with two scalps along with Mlaba and Marizanne Kapp. Tumi Sekhukhune also picked a wicket.
India have so far maintained a perfect record in the marquee event. South Africa, on the other hand, started with a defeat against England but bounced back with a victory over New Zealand in Indore in their second match.
