The proceedings began with Proteas winning the toss and opting to bat. Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton showed early promise and added 57 for the opening wicket before Bumrah hit timber. He dismissed the latter for 23 and then got rid of Markram for 31 in the next over.
Temba Bavuma also couldn't do much and was dismissed for 3 by Kuldeep Yadav. Tony de Zorzi and Wiaan Mulder then resisted the Indian attack and helped Proteas cross 100. The second session began with Kuldeep trapping Mulder LBW for 24 and Bumrah followed it by removing De Zorzi for the same score.
Siraj then joined the party with wickets of Verreyne and Marco Jansen in the same over before Tea. Corbin Bosch was trapped LBW for 3 by Axar and Bumrah cleaned up Keshav Maharaj (0) and Harmer (5) in the same over.
