Pacer Mohammed Siraj rose to the occasion with a career-defining spell, claiming 5 for 104 in England’s second innings. His efforts not only helped seal the win but also saw him finish as the leading wicket-taker of the series with 23 scalps.
England, chasing a target of 374, were in a strong position at 339 for six when bad light and rain cut short play on Day 4. But India came out firing on the final day, wrapping up the remaining four wickets swiftly. England were bowled out for 367 in 85.1 overs, just seven runs shy of the target.
Siraj, along with Prasidh Krishna (4/126), spearheaded India’s charge on the final morning. The two bowlers delivered under immense pressure, turning the tide in India's favour when it mattered most.
Reflecting on his match-winning performance, Siraj said, "I always believe in myself. No matter the situation, I back myself to win it for the team."
In a heartening display of courage, Chris Woakes walked in at No. 11 despite a shoulder injury that had his left arm in a sling. Battling obvious discomfort, he showed grit and determination before being dismissed.
The series was a rollercoaster. England drew first blood with a five-wicket win at Leeds. India responded emphatically in the second Test at Birmingham, clinching a dominant 336-run win. England reclaimed the lead with a narrow 22-run win at Lord’s, but India battled back to draw the fourth Test in Manchester with a resilient fifth-day performance.
In the decider, Joe Root and Harry Brook had seemingly turned the match in England’s favour with commanding centuries. However, India's bowlers mounted a memorable comeback on the final day, scripting a thrilling finish to an unforgettable series.
