Yama Deepam 2025: Yama Deepam is also known as Deepdan for Yamraj, it is one of the most sacred rituals performed during Diwali. In 2025, Yama Deepam will be observed on Saturday, October 18, coinciding with Dhanteras or Dhantrayodashi. On this evening, a sacred lamp (Deepak) is lit outside the home to honour Lord Yama, the god of death. Rituals of Deepdan for Yamraj (Yama Deepam Puja Vidhi)

“Mrityuna Pashadandaabhyaam Kaalaena Shyamyamayataha, Trayodashyantakam Deepam Dadyat Preetyai Yamasya Cha.”
Some devotees also offer water, sesame seeds, and prayers to ancestors (Pitrs) seeking blessings and peace for departed souls.
