The name Chandraghanta comes from the crescent moon (Chandra) on her forehead, shaped like a bell (Ghanta). After marrying Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati began adorning her forehead with this moon, which led her to be called Maa Chandraghanta. She is also considered the married form of Goddess Mahagauri.
