The Tulsi Vivah festival signifies the holy union of Goddess Tulsi and Lord Shaligram (Vishnu). It is believed that performing this sacred ritual removes all doshas related to marriage and ensures peace and prosperity in the household.
According to sacred texts, Tulsi is regarded as an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi, born as Vrinda, the devoted wife of demon King Jalandhar. Pleased with her devotion, Lord Vishnu promised to marry her in his Shaligram form after Jalandhar’s death. Hence, the divine Tulsi-Shaligram Vivah is celebrated with great devotion.
The day also marks the beginning of the Hindu marriage season, and married women perform Tulsi Puja for the well-being of their families, while unmarried girls worship her to find a suitable life partner.
