Parana, the breaking of the fast, is an essential ritual after observing Ekadashi fasting. It should be performed after sunrise on the following day, within the Dwadashi Tithi, unless Dwadashi ends before sunrise. Failing to break the fast within this time frame is considered an offence in Hindu tradition.

However, Parana should not be done during Hari Vasara—the first quarter of the Dwadashi Tithi. It is advised to wait for Hari Vasara to end before breaking the fast. The preferred time for Parana is Pratahkal (early morning), and if that's not possible, it should be done after Madhyahna (midday).
