This day is of great religious significance to Hindus, as it is devoted to the worship of Lord Ganesha. There are two Chaturthi Tithis observed during the lunar cycle: Vinayak Chaturthi, which falls during the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon), and Sankashti Chaturthi, which occurs during the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon).
In the Hindu epic Mahabharata, it is said that sage Vyasa recited the epic, which was transcribed by Lord Ganesha. In the course of this event, Lord Ganesha sacrificed one of his tusks. This ultimate act of knowledge represents Lord Ganesha's mastery over wisdom and learning.
Ekadanta Sankashti Chaturthi Puja Rituals
- Devotees wake up early and start the day with a holy bath.
- They prepare modak sweets, which are Lord Ganesha’s favorite food.
- Fasting is observed throughout the day, and only satvik (pure) food is consumed.
- Devotees chant the Ganesha Atharvashirsha to seek blessings from the lord.
Sankashti Chaturthi is a day of religious and spiritual importance. Lord Ganesha, revered as Pratham Pujya, swiftly heeds his devotees' prayers. Devotees aiming to please him must harbor pure intentions and adhere to the established rituals. Throughout the fast, they refrain from negative habits such as consuming alcohol and eating non-vegetarian food. In return, Lord Ganesha bestows upon his worshipper's health, wealth, joy, and prosperity when they worship him with sincere devotion and dedication.
