- Preparations for Lakshmi Puja: Preparation for Lakshmi Puja begins well before the evening rituals. Homes and workplaces are adorned with marigold flowers and leaves from Ashoka, mango, and banana trees, which are considered auspicious. A Mangalik Kalash (a pot) covered with an unpeeled coconut is placed at the entrance to welcome the Goddess.
- Setting Up the Puja Area: To prepare for the puja, a red cloth is spread on a raised platform, where idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are placed after dressing them in silk garments and jewelry. A white cloth is also set up on the left side for the Navgraha gods (the nine celestial bodies).
- Devotees prepare nine slots of Akshata (unbroken rice) for the Navgraha and sixteen slots of wheat or wheat flour on the red cloth for the puja. The Lakshmi Puja is then performed with full rituals, following the detailed instructions outlined in the Lakshmi Puja Vidhi.
- Lakshmi Puja Muhurat: The timing for Lakshmi Puja is crucial. The puja should be conducted during Pradosh Kaal, which begins after sunset and lasts for approximately 2 hours and 24 minutes.
