The Ambubachi Mela 2025, one of the largest spiritual gatherings in Northeast India, will be held from June 22 to June 26 at the sacred Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, Assam. The annual festival celebrates the divine menstruation of Goddess Kamakhya, a powerful symbol of fertility and Shakti worship in Hindu tradition.

Assam Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass confirmed that nearly 10 lakh pilgrims are expected to attend this year’s mela. In preparation, a high-level coordination meeting was held in Guwahati involving 24 government departments to ensure seamless arrangements.

“We are fully geared up to host the Ambubachi Mela 2025 from June 22 to 26. The main sanctum doors of Kamakhya Temple will remain closed during the festival and reopen for darshan, attracting around 20 lakh devotees over time,” Dass said. He added that the state government has allocated a budget of ₹5.4 crore for the event’s management.

Situated on the Nilachal Hills, just 7 km from Guwahati city, the Kamakhya Temple is one of the most revered Shakti Peethas in India. The site holds immense significance for tantric practitioners and devout Hindus. The Ambubachi Mela marks the annual retreat period of the goddess, observed as her time of menstruation, during which the temple remains closed for three days.
