Vivek Ramaswamy, the Cincinnati-born biotech entrepreneur who departed the Department of Government Efficiency initiative on President Donald Trump's first day, has announced his bid for Ohio governor on Monday.

“Today, I am honored to announce that I am running to be the next governor of a great state at the heart of the greatest nation known to mankind – the state where I was born and raised, the state where Apoorva and I raise our two sons today – a state whose best days are still ahead,” Ramaswamy said at a rally in Cincinnati.

US President Donald Trump has endorsed Ramaswamy’s gubernatorial bid, touting his former GOP primary opponent in a post on Truth Social as “something SPECIAL.”

Ramaswamy, 39, is joining the 2026 Republican primary just a month after presumed frontrunner and then-Lt. Gov. Jon Husted left the running to take a US Senate appointment.
