It's an open secret that the path to the White House often goes through the battleground states, or swing states, in every US presidential election. These states can vote either Republican or Democrat and are considered the most crucial in deciding the next president of America.
In 2024, there are seven states that could swing either way on November 5: the Rust Belt trio of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, and the Sun Belt quartet of Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina.
Both the candidates—former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris—spent a bulk of their ad money and campaign efforts with a focus on these seven states. Most opinion polls are predicting a very close fight in the swing states this year, making Trump vs Harris a dead heat that is likely to go down to the wire.

Voters: Nearly three-quarters (73.7%) of Michiganders are non-Hispanic white, but the state is also home to a sizable Black population (14.1%). The next-largest group by race or ethnicity is the Hispanic population, which comprises 6%.
NEVADA

Voters: Nevada is a fairly diverse state, and the 2020 census showed it was among the fastest-growing states in the nation. Less than half of its population (45.4%) is non-Hispanic white, and 29.9% is Hispanic. The next-largest racial or ethnic groups are the Black or African American population (11%) and Asian population (9.7%).
NORTH CAROLINA

Voters: Nearly 61% of North Carolina's population is non-Hispanic white. The state also has a sizable Black or African American population (22.1%) and Hispanic population (11.4%), and it will be crucial for the Harris campaign to mobilize both groups if it wants to win the state.
Women - another pivotal voting bloc - comprise 51.1% of North Carolina's population.
PENNSYLVANIA

Pennsylvania and US Elections

Voters: Close to 4 in 5 Wisconsinites (79.5%) are non-Hispanic white, according to the latest estimates by the U.S. Census Bureau. The next-largest groups by race or ethnicity are the Hispanic (8.1%) and Black or African American populations (6.6%). Another important group - ringing true across the country for both Harris and Trump - is independent voters. The group helped Trump win the state in 2016, and helped Biden take the reins in 2020.
