Kamala Harris to announce vice president pick before battleground states tour
Harris, currently the US Vice President, is expected to announce her selection by Tuesday

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has narrowed her search for a vice presidential running mate to two finalists: Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, according to a Reuters report. Harris, currently the US Vice President, is expected to announce her selection by Tuesday, in advance of her first public appearance with the chosen running mate that evening at Temple University in Philadelphia.

In a late Monday message to supporters, Harris confirmed that her decision is yet to be finalized. “I know many of you are eager to find out who I will be selecting to join me on the campaign trail, and hopefully in the White House, as my Vice President,” Harris stated. She encouraged voters to sign up for updates on the announcement through a provided link, emphasizing the importance of keeping grassroots supporters informed.

The selection of a running mate is a pivotal moment in Harris' political career as she gears up for the November 5 election against Republican nominee Donald Trump and his vice presidential pick, U.S. Senator JD Vance. Vance is also scheduled for a campaign stop in South Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Governor Josh Shapiro, 51, is seen as a rising star within the Democratic Party with strong approval ratings in Pennsylvania—a key battleground state with 19 electoral votes. As a former state attorney general, Shapiro’s potential selection would be historically significant, marking the first Jewish vice president.
