In Washington for Trump inauguration, S Jaishankar meets Quad counterparts

External affairs minister S Jaishankar has met Japanese and Australian counterparts in Washington and reviewed bilateral ties as well Quad developments. The foreign ministers of the grouping of India, Japan, Australia and the US are likely to meet on January 21.

Jaishankar was in the American capital for the swearing in of Donald Trump as the 47th US president. Quad foreign ministers were invited to the ceremony by Trump and within hours of which the Senate confirmed Marco Rubio as the secretary of the state.

"It was good to meet with FM Takeshi Iwaya of Japan. We reviewed the progress in our bilateral cooperation. We also discussed developments pertaining to Quad," Jaishankar posted on X.

The meeting was their second bilateral engagement since the G7 foreign ministers gathering in Italy in November.
