Germany's Verdi Union expands strike call, impacting 10 airports amid wage dispute

Germany’s Verdi union has escalated its efforts in a wage dispute by expanding its call for aviation security staff to go on strike, impacting at least 10 airports.

Employees in passenger control at Hanover, Dortmund, Weeze, Leipzig, and Dresden airports are poised to lay down their work for varying durations on Friday, while staff at Munich airport will cease operations from 4 am Thursday until 6 am Friday.

This move follows the union's decision to call strikes at five other airports for Thursday, as part of its push for higher wages for the approximately 25,000 employees in the industry nationwide.

Despite five rounds of collective bargaining with the federal association of aviation security companies (BDLS), Verdi reports no agreement reached to date. As tensions persist, wage negotiations are scheduled to resume on March 20.
