• President Mohammed Shahabuddin appointed Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus as the head of Bangladesh's interim government. This decision came a day after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country in the wake of deadly protests against her administration's controversial job quota system.
