One person’s trash can indeed be another’s treasure.
A 34-year-old woman from Texas, US, has transformed the often frowned-upon practice of dumpster diving into a lucrative full-time occupation. Tiffany Butler earned over $76,000 (Rs 63.77 lakh), with and a bit of luck can turn trash into treasure.
“You never know when stores are going to toss stuff – it’s really just all about luck,” Butler shared with What’s The Jam. Diving into dumpsters at least two to three times a week, she collects and resells products online, turning discarded items into profit.
In a recent video on social media Butler displayed her latest finds: nine brand-new New Balance sneakers, water bottles, T-shirts, and socks, all with price tags still attached.
In just two years, she has amassed approximately $80,000 from her dumpster diving ventures. Her secret? Targeting dumpsters behind high-end stores, where quality goods are often discarded.
“If you can name it, I’ve probably found it,” Butler remarked, highlighting her diverse finds from nearly eight years of diving.
Her savvy approach has garnered widespread praise online. “This is so stupid of the stores to toss things like this, especially when people are struggling to buy necessities,” a commenter criticised.
Butler’s practice of dumpster diving, though unconventional, is entirely legal across all 50 states of US. However, potential divers should heed caution: ignoring warning signs, trespassing on private property, tampering with locks, or causing disturbances can lead to legal trouble.
