India’s power situation remained below 1 million units for a third consecutive day, as the rainfall deficit narrowed across the country.
The rainfall deficit narrowed further to 4.6 percent from 6.8 percent on Tuesday, as per data released by the Indian Meteorological Department.
Kharif sowing was up 33 percent on June 28, compared with the previous year, with pulses sowing up 181 percent, paddy largely unchanged and 150 percent higher acreage under oilseeds.
Power data indicates India faced an energy shortage of 0.22 million units on July 1, compared with 0.64 MU on June 30. Uttarakhand was the only state facing an energy shortage.
Eighteen of 36 states and union territories faced normal or above normal rainfall as on July 2. Ten states were facing excess or larger than excess rainfall.
India’s average reservoir levels are also likely to improve; they were down 16.7 percent from normal on June 27, compared with 8.7 percent last week.
IMD noted on Monday that India is likely to face above-normal rainfall conditions in July.
