Two fall sick after eating at McDonald’s and Theobroma in Noida, probe on

Two prominent restaurant chains in Noida have come under FDA’s scanner after separate cases of suspected food contamination. According to an NDTV report, the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department (FDA) in Uttar Pradesh collected samples from McDonald’s in Noida Sector 18 and Theobroma in Sector 104 as two people fell sick after consuming food there.

Officials said they acted on complaints lodged via the Food Safety Connect portal of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Speaking to ANI on Monday, Assistant Commissioner (Food) FDA, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Archana Dheeran said that a customer complained of falling sick after eating French fries and aloo tikki at a McDonald’s outlet in Noida sector 18. An FSDA team visited the outlet to collect food samples.

“We have taken action in this regard and taken samples of palm oil, cheese and mayonnaise,” said Dheeran.

“In another case, a complaint came against Theobroma bakery where someone fell ill (in Noida) after consuming stale cake from the bakery. The customer also complained that the icing of the cake tasted sour. We took a sample of the pineapple cake and sent it to the laboratory,” she continued, adding that a case will be registered if the product fails to pass the test.

Dheeran said the report is expected to arrive in a month. Food Safety Officers Ram Naresh, Mukesh Kumar, Vijay Bahadur Patel, and others were part of the FSDA team that conducted raids at the two outlets.
