One of India's richest women and chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, Sudha Murty, recently said that for her, money is "not that important", entrepreneurship is.
Speaking to Moneycontrol at its Startup Conclave in Bengaluru, the author and philanthropist said, "I never aimed for money. For me, money is not that important. The creation of jobs, creation of wealth can uplift people who are below the poverty line, and for that entrepreneurship is very important."
Sudha Murty also spoke about her preference for apps that help people in rural areas. "Apps that made a common man, a villager's life, easier, I really appreciate it, like Google Pay," she said adding that other apps on the weather forecast and maps are also very important. "Now, I cannot imagine a life without WhatsApp."
At the event, Sudha Murty also took the stage to dedicate a short but moving piece to all the wives of entrepreneurs and their unwavering support. “I just want to tell all young entrepreneurs that it is very difficult to deal with a more successful man. They are not normal, they are eccentric, they don’t have logic at home -- only in the office," she said. 'They expect you to be their wife, secretary, finance manager, nanny, adviser and many more roles. A woman has to do all those. And any one of them you fail that affects them bad.”
Her husband and Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy had just minutes earlier recalled how he resigned from his job on her birthday in 1976 to follow his entrepreneurial dreams, and how the only support he had was her.
