Every year, representatives of all Indian Premier League (IPL) teams assemble for the auction in a bid to strengthen their existing squad, ahead of the new season of the tournament.
The 2024 IPL auction was held on Tuesday and saw a slice of history as it was the first time that the auction was held outside India at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
A key factor that forced authorities to shift the auction overseas was because of the wedding season in India which made it difficult to book hotels to host the event.
"Due to the wedding season, hotel availability can be an issue. This is why we decided to host it in Dubai", an IPL official told Deccan Herald.
