All the domestic football leagues around the world will come to a halt over the next four weeks, starting November 20, as the 2022 FIFA World Cup kicks off in Qatar on Sunday.
While some of the biggest names in club football will be donning their national jersey at the World Cup, a few of them will be watching on from the comfort of their couch. One such name is Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland. The striker's country did not qualify for the showpiece event, so the Manchester City star will be out of work for the next month.
However, non-league club Ashton United FC are looking to give the striker some work during the off period. The team, which plays in the fifth tier of the English football pyramid, hilariously submitted a 28-day loan request for Haaland.
It put out a statement on its website, which read: "Ashton United can confirm that the club has submitted a 28-day loan approach for Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.
"With the current Premier League champions not in action until late December due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, The Robins have reached out to our neighbours at the Etihad in order to keep Haaland’s match fitness with him not being involved in Qatar."

This light-hearted request is nothing but a marketing stunt, which many fans seem to have enjoyed. City has yet to respond to Ashton United's loan request.
It remains to be seen if Manchester City will indeed respond to the request with a cheeky statement of its own.
In the meanwhile, Haaland will be watching on as the biggest football stars descend in Qatar in their quest for glory.
