The referee signals the end of the half. Japan handed Senegal the lead following a blunder by keeper Kawashima who punched the ball straight into Mane. Japan then equalised through a brilliant curling shot by Inui. Scores are level at half-time.

Senegal win a free-kick on the left side of the field after Sakai brings down Mane. Mane steps up to take the free-kick and fires it towards the far post. Niangfinds himself unmarked and head across the face of goal but the referee signals offside.

Senegal are again on the front foot and the Japanese goalkeeper Kawashima almost gifted them another goal. A lovely ball from over the top releases Niang as Kawashima comes charging forward to collect the ball but then realizes that he isn't going to reach there in time. Niangpokes the ball but Kawashima positions himself quickly and puts in a diving save to keep the scores level.

Japan find their way back into this game in style. Nagatomo made a clever run behind the Senegal defense and received a pass from over the top. He burst into the box before Inui picked up the ball from him and curled in a low shot into the bottom corner from 15 yards out. Beautiful strike from the winger leaving Ndiaye no chance of saving it.
