IPL Spot-fixing: Court cleared all accused of charges

In a major verdict in the Indian Premier League spot-fixing case on Saturday, the MCOCA court at Delhi's Patiala House cleared all accused, including three Rajasthan Royals players S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandil and Ankeet Chavan, of charges.

The BCCI had slapped a life ban on Sreesanth and Chavan, but the court verdict now clears them of all charges leaving the BCCI in a tight position."I feel relieved. It was one of the worst phase of my life, but I had complete faith in the judicial system and the supreme power above. I will be able to sleep as a relieved man now. I hope BCCI will now allow me to continue playing for India," said Chandila after the verdict.

"Thanks a lot for all who supported me. I will make sure I return to cricket. I want BCCI to revoke my life ban," said Sreesanth, winner of the 50-over and T20 World Cup for India.Earlier in the day, the prosecution had sought more time to investigate the case

In 2013 when the case broke out, Police had invoked Sections 3 and 4 of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and claimed India's most wanted underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his associates were running betting syndicate and were the mastermind of IPL spot-fixing in season 6. Despite slapping MCOCA, all suspects managed to get bail on 10th June, 2013.On 16th May 2013, special cell of the Delhi Police carried out raids in Mumbai and arrested the three players of Rajasthan Royals.
