Sachin Tendulkar on Sunday congratulated Virat Kohli for matching his record for the most number of ODI hundreds, getting to his 49th century in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 match against South Africa at Kolkata's Eden Gardens.
Kohli went on par with Sachin Tendulkar, who scored the same number of centuries in 463 ODIs. The former Indian skipper, who also turned 35 on Sunday, reached the mark in the 49th over of India's innings by taking a single off the bowling of Kagiso Rabada.
"Well played Virat," Sachin Tendulkar wrote on X. "It took me 365 days to go from 49 to 50 earlier this year. I hope you go from 49 to 50 and break my record in the next few days. Congratulations!"
Cricketer Suresh Raina also congratulated Kohli by jumping onto the "just looking like a wow" trending bandwagon. "When I first met him, I remember every game he would say, ‘paaji aaj 100 banana hai’. Well done Virat, so beautiful, so elegant, just looking like a wow, looking like a wow!" he wrote on X.
Industrialist Anand Mahindra also congratulated Kohli and wished him on his birthday in his trademark style. "Kohli ka Kamaal. Janam din par Dhamaal," he wrote on X. "Thank you, Virat Kohli, for showcasing a brand of aggressive ambition that has transformed the aspirations of a whole new generation. We now accept no limits…"
