At 7.1 million sq. ft, the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) consolidates India's 70,000-strong diamond trading community within the largest single-office building in the world. Designed by Morphogenesis, SDB is a seed building for the Diamond Research and Mercantile (DREAM) City, an upcoming business district on the outskirts of Surat.

“Built entirely by the diamond community for the community as a cooperative to elevate their lives, the building is a testament to their shared vision and collective agency. With a focus on environmental sustainability, SDB consumes 50 percent less energy than the highest green benchmarks. Hundred percent of the building's community and circulation areas, equivalent to 30 percent of the built-up area, are naturally ventilated with passive cooling strategies. Moreover, the building features one of the world’s largest radiant cooling systems, where the interiors are cooled by an energy-efficient system that uses chilled circulated water on the floors and ceilings,” says Sonali Rastogi, founding partner, Morphogenesis.
