The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recommended auctioning approximately 3000 MHz of spectrum in the millimetre wave (mmWave) band, allowing telecom operators to acquire more 5G spectrum in the upcoming auction.

On February 4, TRAI proposed auctioning spectrum in the 37-37.5 GHz and 37.5-40 GHz frequency bands while excluding the 42.5-43.5 GHz range due to the lack of a supporting device ecosystem.

“The frequency spectrum in 37-37.5 GHz and 37.5-40 GHz should be auctioned in the forthcoming spectrum sale. However, due to the absence of a device ecosystem, the 42.5-43.5 GHz band should not be included,” TRAI stated in its recommendations.

TRAI released its recommendations on spectrum block sizes and reserve prices for the 37-40 GHz band. The reserve price per MHz ranges from Rs 76 lakh in the Delhi metro circle to Rs 3 lakh in Jammu & Kashmir and the North East.
