In a startling response to a question posed by one of the students at Aligarh Muslim University, senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Salman Khurshid admitted that the "Congress has blood on its hands".
While attending a seminar at the Aligarh Muslim University, a student Amir Mintoee asked Khurshid about the multiple occasions where Muslims were massacred when the Narasimha Rao-led Congress government was at the helm of affairs. He mentioned riots such as Hasanpura, Maliana, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Moradabad, Bhagalpur, and Aligarh.
In response to his questions, Khurshid, a veteran member of the grand old party and a former law minister, conceded that the Congress had "blood on its hands".
He asked the audience if the Congress’ tarnished history was preventing them to seek the party’s help in the case of a conflict. He went on to advise the students against violence warning them of dire consequences, saying, “Learn something from the past, don’t meet the same fate".
The admission comes out as an embarrassment to the Congress especially after they accused the BJP of being communal and callous at handling law and order situations in the recent cases of communal flare-ups in BJP-ruled states.
