The Assembly elections, which concluded in India's five states recently, nearly broke the internet with users posting over 66 lakh tweets related to the event across India and the world.
Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Telangana witnessed state elections, the results of which were declared on December 11. Data revealed by Twitter shows that four lakh tweets were posted on the counting day alone.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi dominated the platform among the most talked-about national leaders during the elections season, lasting from October 10 to December 11. He was followed by the Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supremo Amit Shah.
Surprisingly, the fourth sport was secured by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath leaving behind prominent leaders of the poll-bound states. The state’s former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav was positioned as the fifth most discussed politician.
In Telangana, caretaker chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s son KT Rama Rao left his father behind in the list of top mentioned leaders in the state. He was followed by AIMIM’s chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee’s head Uttam Kumar Reddy and BJP state chief K Laxman, who secured second, third and fourth spot, respectively.
In Madhya Pradesh, outgoing chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, leads the list of top mentioned leaders from the state. Chouhan is followed by Congress leaders Jyotiraditya Scindia and Kamal Nath in the list.
Similarly, in Rajasthan, outgoing chief minister Vasundhara Raje dominated the list of top mentioned leaders. The BJP leader was followed by two of the most prominent Congress faces – Sachin Pilot and Ashok Gehlot.
In Chhattisgarh, where Congress defeated the ruling BJP, outgoing chief minister Raman Singh was the most discussed leader. The state’s first chief minister Ajit Jogi was listed third, after Congress’ Bhupesh Baghel.
