P Chidambaram has offered to be in CBI custody till September 2.

The former finance minister made the “unprecedented” offer during the INX Media corruption case in the Supreme Court on August 29.

September 2 is the day, earlier set by a bench of Justices A S Bopanna and R Banumathi, when would hear Chidambaram’s plea of challenging the remand orders passed by the trial court to keep him in the CBI custody. The bench, however, made no comment on Chidambaram’s offer.

The bench said it would pronounce on September 5 its order on Chidambaram's plea challenging the Delhi High Court's August 20 verdict denying him anticipatory bail plea in the INX Media money laundering case lodged by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
