Former Bihar deputy chief minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member of parliament Sushil Kumar Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to disclose that he has been struggling with cancer for the last six months. He said that he felt it was the right time to inform the public about his health condition.
"I have been battling cancer for the last 6 months. Now I feel that the time has come to tell people. I will not be able to do anything in the Lok Sabha elections. I have told everything to the PM. Always grateful and always dedicated to the country, Bihar and the party," he said.
Sushil Modi is part of the election manifesto committee constituted by the BJP recently for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The panel will be led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, with finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman as the convenor and commerce minister Piyush Goyal as the co-convenor.

- Born in January 1952, Bihar’s former deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi has been a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh since his early years. His political career began while he was in college. He was the general secretary of the student's union in 1973.
- His career took a turn in 1990 when he contested from the Patna Central Assembly and won.
- In the 1995 assembly polls, BJP emerged the main opposition party. The central BJP brass chose format bureaucrat Yashwant Sinha as leader of the Opposition over Sushil Modi. But Sinha had to resign in the wake of the hawala case and was replaced by Modi in 1996.
- Reportedly, Modi was was also arrested five times during the Emergency. He is said to have played an active role in mobilising students during the Sino-Indian war of 1962.
- Apart from serving as the deputy chief minister, Sushil Modi has also held the position of Finance Minister in the state.
