Over a dozen opposition leaders came together at New Delhi's historic Ramlila Maidan on March 31 to mark their protest against Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the now scrapped Delhi excise policy.
Opposition leaders who attended Sunday's 'Loktantra Bachao' rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi today include Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, National Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar, Aam Aadmi Party's Bhagwant Mann, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's wife, Sunita Kejriwal, Jharkhand former CM Hemant Soren's wife, Kalpana Soren, and others.
Earlier in the day, Sunita Kejriwal read out a message written by her husband and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inside the Enforcement Directorate's custody.
She also read out the six guarantees promised by Arvind Kejriwal ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. These guarantees are- 24-hour nationwide electricity, free electricity for poor across the nation, good government schools in all villages and colonies, Mohalla clinics for all mohallas (colonies) and villages, MSP for farmers as per the Swaminathan committee report and full statehood for Delhi.
Senior AAP leader Gopal Rai had said on Saturday that the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance's (INDIA) rally was the last chance to save India's Constitution and democracy. The Bharatiya Janata Party insists that Kejriwal's arrest by the ED and the issuance of tax notifications to the Congress were outcomes of the agencies operating autonomously and adhering to legal protocols. Additionally, it criticised the AAP for persisting in its demand for the Delhi chief minister to govern from jail.
