89% of Telangana’s newly elected MLAs are crorepatis, 61% facing criminal cases

With six women elected to the state assembly this time, only five percent of elected legislators are women

K Chandrashekar Rao-led Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on December 11 retained power in India’s newest state with a thumping majority, in the state assembly election.

TRS won 88 out of the 119 seats in the Legislative Assembly. The Congress-led alliance, called the ‘Prajakutami’, won 21 seats while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to win one seat. Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) won seven seats.

Here’s a look at the financial assets, criminal cases, educational qualifications of the newly elected Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in Telangana, according to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
