Ashok Chavan: Ahead of Lok Sabha Polls 2024, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan resigned from the Congress party. He was reportedly unhappy with the party and later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Milind Deora: Earlier in January, the day Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, his once close aide Milind Deora quit the party. He then joined Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction.
Baba Siddique: In February, former Maharashtra Minister Baba Siddique resigned from Congress. He then joined the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on February 10.
Ghulam Nabi Azad: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and veteran politician Ghulam Nabi Azad on August 26 2022, resigned from all positions including primary membership of Congress. Later, On September 26, Azad announced his own political party as Democratic Progressive Azad Party.
Kapil Sibal: Senior advocate Kapil Sibal resigned from the Congress in May 2022 and was elected to Rajya Sabha as an independent candidate with support from the Samajwadi Party. He has represented several high-profile cases in the Supreme Court and is widely regarded as one of the famous lawyers of India.
Amarinder Singh: Former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh resigned from the Congress in November 2021 following a tussle with Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu and other party legislators. He then joined the Bharatiya Janta Party. (BJP)
RPN Singh: Former Union minister R P N Singh resigned from Congress in January 2022 and then joined the BJP. He claimed that the Congress was no longer the party it used to be.
Jitin Prasada: In June 2021, Prasada became the first of the Group of 23 Congress leaders to leave the party. He joined the BJP. The G-23 leaders had written to Sonia Gandhi in 2020 seeking radical changes in the organisation.
Jyotiraditya Scindia: Scindia quit the Congress party and joined the BJP in 2020. His exit, along with 22 MLAS, brought down the Kamal Nath government in Madhya Pradesh and helped Shivraj Singh Chouhan be the Chief Minister.
Ashwani Kumar: Former Law Minister Ashwani Kumar in February 2022 resigned from the Congress, ending his 46-year-long association with the grand old party.
