10 mid-cap gems that children-oriented MFs love to hold for the long term

Solution-oriented schemes offered by mutual funds (MFs) have gained investors’ attention. Currently, there are 27 retirement funds and 11 children-oriented funds and the combined number of investor accounts stand at 58 lakh, as of February-end.
MFs offer children’s plans with various options across equity and debt portfolios. They are open-ended schemes with a lock-in period of at least five years or till the time the child attains the age of maturity at 18, whichever is earlier. The compulsory lock-in provides fund managers a leeway to buy quality mid-cap stocks and hold them for the long term.
