Assembly Election Results 2023: What's at stake for the four states?
All eyes will be on the fight between the Congress and BJP as counting of votes begin. Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana Assembly results are being billed as a semi-finals of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The results of Mizoram polls will be declared on December 4 as the Election Commission deferred the counting by a day.
The exit polls varied in predicting a winner in Madhya Pradesh. However, the opposition Congress led by Kamal Nath is confident of overthrowing the long-standing BJP government led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan, which has been in power for nearly two decades.
All eyes are on who will become the chief minister, especially since the BJP’s central leadership has fielded many Lok Sabha MPs. Wresting power from the Congress led by Shivraj Singh Chauhan is expected to be a significant boost for the party, especially after recent losses in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh. However, a desicive victory for the saffron party will ease things up for the party's top leadership.
Even if the Congress retains power, it is uncertain if Bhupesh Baghel will secure a second term as Chief Minister. Or is a BJP-win likely, something that exit polls haven’t been able to read? All eight exit polls have predicted that the Congress will win a clear majority, while three have shown that Chief Minister Baghel will get a second straight term. The Congress has had deep roots in the state even before its separation from Andhra Pradesh under Sonia Gandhi’s leadership. However, exit polls this time suggest a strong comeback for the grand old party in the southern state, potentially impacting the political future of two-term chief minister Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). According to the India Today-Axis My India survey, the BJP is predicted to win 63-73 seats, while the ruling BRS is likely to get 34-44 seats.
