Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary constituency in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir recorded a voter turnout of 52.28 percent as of 7:45 pm on May 25, marking the highest participation in many decades. In the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections, the three Parliamentary constituencies in the valley — Srinagar (38.49 percent), Baramulla (59.1 percent), and Anantnag-Rajouri (52.28 percent) — recorded the highest voter turnouts in decades.
Polling for Anantnag-Rajouri was conducted at 2,338 polling stations, with live webcasting at these stations ensuring transparency. Voting commenced at 7 am across the constituency.
The Election Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar along with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, applauded the democratic spirit displayed by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
"The people of Jammu and Kashmir, in the Anantnag-Rajouri PC polling too, have reposed faith in democracy and proved naysayers wrong," they said in a statement.
A total of 20 candidates, including two women, vied for the Lok Sabha seat from Anantnag-Rajouri. The primary contest featured PDP chief and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti against prominent Gujjar leader and former minister Mian Altaf Ahmad of the National Conference.
Migrant Kashmiri Pandits boost turnout: Nearly 40 percent participation in polls
Nearly 40 percent of migrant Kashmiri Pandits participated in the voting process in the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary constituency. This marks a notable increase in turnout compared to the elections held in 2019, 2014, and 2009.
Thirty-four special polling stations designated for migrant Kashmiri Pandits were put up in Jammu, Udhampur, and Delhi. The totaling 34 stations included 21 in Jammu, four in Delhi, one in Udhampur, and eight auxiliary stations.
The constituency, encompassing nearly 18.36 lakh voters, including 9.02 lakh women, witnessed the exercise of the right to franchise across 2,338 polling stations during the voting process.
