Women power takeover: PM Modi to hand over social media accounts to achievers on Women’s Day

In a move celebrating women’s achievements, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that his social media accounts will be taken over by women achievers from various fields on March 8, marking International Women’s Day.

Speaking in his monthly Mann Ki Baat address, Modi encouraged people to honor and respect the resilience of women, noting their increasing participation across sectors. He said these women will share their journeys and experiences through his social media platforms, which have millions of followers across X, YouTube, and Instagram.

This is not the first time Modi has taken such an initiative. In 2020, he had similarly handed over his accounts to seven leading women.

Beyond the Women’s Day announcement, the prime minister also spoke about rising obesity in India, urging people to cut their oil consumption by 10% and challenge others to do the same. Citing research, he pointed out that one in eight people suffers from obesity, and rates among children have quadrupled in recent years. Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra and others contributed audio messages to emphasize the importance of fitness.
