As the row over 'poisonous' Yamuna water intesifies, Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday took a sip of the river water in the national capital's Palla village, in an effort to debunk AAP's accusation that the Haryana government is involved in poisoning of the river water flowing into Delhi.

The chief minister, through his action, clearly wanted to hit hard at  AAP and nullify the growing body of claims on deliberate poisoning of Yamuna water by the Haryana state dispensation.

Chief Minister Atishi and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal have accused Haryana of mixing poison in the Yamuna River that supplies water to Delhi. According to her, the water in Yamuna is no longer treatable and sought the Election Commission's intervention.

"Ammonia levels continue to be 6 times above normal in Yamuna waters, at the point it is entering Delhi from Haryana. Such levels are extremely toxic for the human body. This water cannot be treated and supplied to the people of Delhi. Otherwise, their lives will be at risk," said the Chief Minister.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Yamuna water sent by Haryana is consumed by everyone living in Delhi, including himself. "Yamuna water is consumed by judges, diplomats as well as the poor. How can one think that Haryana will poison it to kill Modi,” said the PM while addressing a poll rally in New Delhi.
