On Vijayadashami 2025, the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) conducted a trial run of the metro between the State Secretariat and Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. The extension marks progress in the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar Metro Phase-2 project.
The route, which previously ended at the Secretariat, has now been tested through five additional stations: Akshardham, Old Secretariat, Sector-16, Sector-24, and Mahatma Mandir, the final stop on the line.
According to officials speaking to DeshGujarat, the trial results will be forwarded to the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for approval. If clearance is granted, passenger operations on this stretch are likely to begin by early next year.
Once operational, metro services in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar will cover 68 kilometers and 53 stations, expanding affordable and eco-friendly travel options for commuters.
The development is expected to strengthen public transport in Gandhinagar while supporting sustainable mobility in the region.
