A Booth Level Officer (BLO) posted in Sehal Zahidpur village of Uttar Pradesh’s Bhagatpur block was found dead on Tuesday in what authorities say appears to be a suicide linked to work stress.
The officer, identified as Sarvesh Singh, was discovered with a three-page note at the scene, News18 reported.
The note included the line: “Can’t complete SIR’s Target. I am under stress because of that." Officials said the document also referenced pressure associated with his electoral roll duties.
District Magistrate Anuj Kumar Singh confirmed the incident and said a full investigation is underway.
“Look, 406 booths fall under the jurisdiction of Zahidpur village. We have received reports that the BLO (Booth Level Officer) took some drastic steps. Along with this, a note was also found revealing certain details. The local police are currently investigating the entire matter, examining all aspects,” he said.
Portions of the letter, according to officials, describe the officer’s emotional distress and fear.
“I want to live, but what can I do? I am feeling trapped by great trouble and sorrow. I feel scared and surrounded from all sides by difficult situations. I am in deep pain while writing this. I have always tried to take care of my family and my responsibilities,” the note stated.
He appealed for assistance for his wife. “Right now my wife needs help. Please ensure she gets support in her life ahead. Officials, please understand, I do not see any other option left for me,” he wrote.
The letter also mentioned his children and his wish that they be cared for, and stressed that he had committed no wrongdoing.
“Please be kind to my pure body and my family. Please forgive any wrongdoing connected to me,” he added.
Police are examining all circumstances surrounding the death, including workload-related stress during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
