A dramatic scene unfolded in the Delhi High Court on Friday during proceedings in the Rs 30,000-crore estate dispute of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur. Senior advocates Mahesh Jethmalani and Rajiv Nayar engaged in a heated verbal exchange after the former interrupted the latter’s arguments.

Jethmalani is representing Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor’s children, who are contesting a purported will that leaves Sunjay’s entire personal estate to his wife, Priya. Nayar, appearing for Priya, argued that the will, dated March 21, is valid.

A 21-second clip posted on X by Bar and Bench from the hearing showed tempers rising. During the heated exchange, advocate Rajiv Nayar objected when Mahesh Jethmalani interrupted him, saying he was not used to interruptions. Jethmalani shot back, telling Nayar he should “get a taste of your own medicine” and repeatedly asked him not to shout. When Nayar insisted that he had been interrupted, Jethmalani responded firmly, urging him to show courtesy to fellow counsel and warning, “If you shout, you will get paid back in coin.” As the spat continued, Nayar remarked that Jethmalani was “not used to…” before Jethmalani cut in, declaring, “I am not a pushover.”

Karisma’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, have petitioned the court seeking one-fifth share each in their father’s estate. The petition argues that neither Sunjay nor Priya ever mentioned such a will during his lifetime. Sunjay died on June 12 in England after collapsing during a polo match.

Priya has countered that the suit is not maintainable, stressing her position as Sunjay’s legal wife. Her counsel pointed to the couple’s contentious divorce in 2016, arguing, “Where was all this love and affection then?” Priya has also claimed that Karisma’s children already received assets worth Rs 1,900 crore under the RK Family Trust.
