The Telangana government has announced reduced working hours for Muslim employees during the holy month of Ramzan, allowing them to leave their workplaces an hour earlier than usual, reported Deccan Chronicle.

As per an official order issued by Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari, this relaxation applies to all Muslim government employees, including teachers, contract and outsourcing staff, as well as those working in boards, corporations, and public sector units. The adjusted schedule will be in effect from March 2 to March 31, 2025, permitting eligible employees to leave work at 4 p.m. to facilitate their observance of Ramzan prayers.

However, the directive clarifies that employees engaged in essential services may not be eligible for this exemption if their presence is required for service exigencies.

The move is in line with previous years, where similar concessions have been granted to accommodate religious practices during the fasting month. Telangana, home to a significant Muslim population, has often introduced measures aimed at supporting cultural and religious observances.
