Tamil Nadu CM Stalin discusses India re-entry with Ford Motors

Ford Motors' Chennai plant remains shut after it the exited India in 2021. Stalin says the two sides are exploring the possibility of 'make in Tamil Nadu for the world'

Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin, who is visiting the United States, has met officials of Ford Motors to discuss the possibility of reopening the automaker’s plant in Chennai, amid reports of the American company exploring a return to the Indian market.

“Had a very engaging discussion with the team from @Ford Motors! Explored the feasibility of renewing Ford’s three-decade partnership with Tamil Nadu, to again make in Tamil Nadu for the world!” the CM said in a post on X.

Stalin is on a 17-day visit to the US, he looks to get fresh investments for the state.

In August, Times of India reported that the American auto giant could return to India, as its CEO Jim Farley and other members of the leadership team are likely to consider a new strategy for the worlds third biggest auto market .

The company exited India in 2021. The re-entry means new investments, a focus on electrics and sustainability and also work on production for exports, the report quoted sources as saying.
