JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna, brother of former MP Prajwal Revanna and grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has been arrested by Karnataka Police in connection with an alleged sexual assault case.
The arrest came after a party worker filed a complaint at the Holenarasipura police station in Hassan district on Saturday night.
Suraj Revanna, 37, was summoned for questioning at the Holenarasipura Rural police station, where he was interrogated for several hours before being arrested, as per news agency PTI.
He has been charged under sections 377 (unnatural sex), 342 (wrongful confinement), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
The complaint alleges that Suraj Revanna sexually assaulted the party worker at his farmhouse in Gannikada village on June 16.
The FIR states that Suraj contacted the complainant after noticing his work during the Lok Sabha polls, invited him to his farm, and promised to help him advance in politics. When the complainant resisted, Suraj allegedly threatened him with dire consequences.
The complainant also reported that after the incident, he informed Suraj Revanna's close aide, who instead of addressing the issue, threatened him not to make the matter public.
He was allegedly offered 2 crore and a job to keep silent. Fearing for his safety, the complainant left for Bengaluru and filed a written complaint with the Director-General of Police.
Suraj Revanna has refuted the charges, claiming that the complainant, Chethan K S, filed a false complaint to extort 5 crore from him. Meanwhile, the Karnataka Police have also registered an FIR against two individuals for extortion, based on a complaint by Suraj Revanna’s aide, Shivakumar.
This arrest is part of a broader scandal involving the Revanna family. Suraj’s father, JD(S) MLA H.D. Revanna, was jailed and later released on conditional bail in a kidnapping case linked to a sex video scandal.
His mother, Bhavani Revanna, is also facing an investigation in the same kidnapping case and was recently granted conditional bail.
