Two Rafale fighter jets, accompanied by a multi-role tanker transport aircraft of the French Space and Air Force, soared through the sky in Delhi during the Republic Day parade on January 26. The grand parade, graced by French President Emmanuel Macron as the chief guest, witnessed the impressive flypast, capturing the attention of thousands of spectators.
The fighter jets and accompanying aircraft added a dynamic element to the celebrations as they roared through the morning sky following the march of around 95 French troops down the Kartavya Path at the heart of the national capital.
A 30-member band contingent from France captured attention at the Republic Day parade. This marked the second time that the French armed forces participated in India's Republic Day celebrations. The first instance occurred in 2016 when French troops became the inaugural foreign military contingent to participate in the significant ceremonial event in the country. The presence of the French band added a cultural and international dimension to the parade, reinforcing the bond between New Delhi and Paris in celebrating each other's milestones.

In July 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the guest of honor at the Bastille Day Parade in Paris. The Bastille Day parade is a major event in France, marking the French National Day. During the parade, the Indian Air Force's Rafale fighter jets and a tri-services marching contingent from India participated, highlighting the strong ties between the two nations.
"This reciprocal invitation to national day celebrations is unprecedented, and shows the deep mutual trust and unwavering friendship underpinning Indo-French ties," a French readout said on India inviting Macron to the Republic Day celebrations.

The French military contingent that participated in the Republic Day parade comprised six Indians, with Captain Noel Louis leading the contingent.
The contingent that participated in the Republic Day parade belonged to the Corps of the French Foreign Legion. The French Foreign Legion is an elite military corps within the French Army, known for being open to foreigners who wish to serve in the French military.
Established in 1831, the French Foreign Legion is an integral part of the French Army. It has a rich history and has been involved in numerous military campaigns. As of now, the French Foreign Legion comprises almost 9,500 officers.
India and France have strengthened their defence and strategic ties through collaboration on various fronts. The acquisition of Rafale fighter jets by India from France has been a key highlight, showcasing the commitment to modernising India's defence capabilities.
