Prime Minister Narendra Modi will ceremonially hoist the saffron flag atop the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir's shikhar in Ayodhya on Tuesday, marking a significant moment in the country’s socio-cultural and spiritual landscape.
Ayodhya has been steeped in devotional fervour ahead of the ceremony. Chairman of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple Construction Committee, Nripendra Mishra, said the Dhwajarohan is both a celebration and a message to devotees worldwide that the temple construction is now complete.
Prime Minister Modi, in a post on X, said Lord Ram is central to India’s identity and heritage.
"Lord Shri Ram is the soul of India, the basis of its consciousness and its pride. For me, it is a matter of supreme fortune that tomorrow, on 25 November, at around 10 a.m., I will have the opportunity for darshan and worship in the divine and magnificent Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple complex in Ayodhya."
He added:
"Thereafter, at around 12 noon, I will witness the historic moment of the formal hoisting of the saffron flag atop the sacred temple of Shri Ram Lala. This flag is a symbol of Lord Shri Ram's radiance, valor and his ideals, as well as our faith, spirituality and cultural heritage. Jai Shri Ram!" PM Modi's schedule in Ayodhya
At around 10 am, PM Modi will visit the Saptmandir — comprising temples dedicated to Maharshi Vashishtha, Maharshi Vishwamitra, Maharshi Agastya, Maharshi Valmiki, Devi Ahilya, Nishadraj Guha and Mata Shabari — followed by a visit to the Sheshavtar Mandir.
At 11 am, he will visit Mata Annapurna Mandir and then offer darshan and pooja at Ram Darbar Garbh Grah and Ram Lalla Garbha Grah.
At 12 noon, he will hoist the saffron flag on the temple’s shikhar, symbolising the completion of the Ram Mandir construction. He will then address the gathered devotees.
The event coincides with Panchami of Shukla Paksha in Margashirsha, aligning with the Abhijit Muhurat of Shri Ram and Maa Sita’s Vivah Panchami, making it an especially auspicious day. It is also the martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur, who meditated in Ayodhya for 48 hours in the 17th century, giving the occasion added spiritual weight.
According to the PMO, the triangular flag — ten feet high and twenty feet long — carries the image of a radiant Sun, the sacred ‘Om’, and the Kovidara tree. It will be hoisted atop a shikhar built in the traditional Nagara architectural style, while the surrounding 800-metre Parkota, designed in the South Indian style, showcases architectural diversity.
The temple complex includes 87 stone-carved episodes from the Valmiki Ramayana on the main temple’s outer walls and 79 bronze-cast cultural episodes along the enclosure, offering visitors a rich cultural and educational experience.
Senior RSS leader Ram Madhav said the ceremony marks the symbolic culmination of a centuries-long journey.
"The hoisting of the flag when it happens symbolises that this temple project, Mission Ram temple, will be symbolically complete."
He added that the long struggle behind the temple’s construction — spanning “400–500 years” — now reaches a joyful conclusion.
Ayodhya Mayor Girish Pati Tripathi said the city has been filled with devotional chants ahead of the ceremony.
"The Ramdhun will continue to play continuously from the various public address systems in Ayodhya… A golden chapter will be added to the history of our Ayodhya."
Nripendra Mishra reiterated the spiritual significance of the moment:
"The Lord is now in his rightful place in the temple… it is like an announcement to the world… that the construction work is now complete."
PM to visit Kurukshetra later in the day
After Ayodhya, PM Modi will visit Kurukshetra, where he will inaugurate ‘Panchjanya’, dedicated to Lord Krishna’s sacred conch, and tour the Mahabharata Anubhav Kendra, an immersive experiential centre.
At 4:30 pm, he will participate in an event marking the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, release a commemorative coin and stamp, and address the gathering.
He will also perform darshan and pooja at the Brahma Sarovar, coinciding with the International Gita Mahotsav underway from November 15 to December 5.
