Hours before the new GST reforms took effect, Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a robust call for swadeshi, urging Indians to embrace indigenous goods and services. The strong pitch for Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat came amid the global trade uncertainties and the ongoing trade negotiations with the United States amid tariff pressure.

The prime minister urged citizens to take pride in purchasing and selling “Swadeshi" products, noting that India’s prosperity depends on the strength of self-reliance.

In his address to the nation on the eve of Navratri, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that building a developed India depends on self-reliance and promoting Made-in-India products.

“To achieve the goal of a developed India, we must walk the path of self-reliance, and our MSMEs bear a significant responsibility in making India self-reliant," he said.
